Privacy and cookies
How ComputeNow uses your information, the cookies and similar technologies on this site, and your rights under UK and EU data protection law.
Who we are
ComputeNow (computenow.co.uk) is responsible for the personal data described here, as the "controller" under the UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR), the Data Protection Act 2018 and, for visitors in the European Economic Area, the EU General Data Protection Regulation (EU GDPR). We have not appointed a data protection officer. For any question about your data, email hello@computenow.co.uk.
In short
- The figures you type into calculators stay in your browser. They are never sent to us.
- If you contact us, we use your name, email address and message only to reply.
- Ads are provided by Google. In the UK and EEA, Google asks for your consent before using cookies for personalised ads, and you can change your choice at any time.
- We do not sell your personal data.
What you type into calculators
Calculations run in your browser. The figures you enter are not sent to us or to anyone else. Some features keep your figures in your own browser so they are there when you come back:
- What's Left (your money plan) saves the items you add, and which steps you have looked at, in your browser's local storage.
- When you move from one calculator to another, the figure carried across is kept in your browser's session storage, which is cleared when you close the tab.
- "Copy link to this result" puts your inputs in the link itself, so anyone you share the link with can see them.
You can delete this information at any time by clearing this site's data in your browser settings.
Messages you send us
When you use the contact form, we receive your name, email address and message.
- Why: to read and reply to your message, and to fix any mistake you report.
- Legal basis: our legitimate interest in answering the people who contact us (Article 6(1)(f) UK GDPR and EU GDPR).
- How it reaches us: the form is handled by Cloudflare, which hosts this site. Cloudflare Turnstile checks your browser for signs of a bot to stop automated spam. The message is then delivered to our inbox by Resend, our email provider, and kept in a Google (Gmail) mailbox. It is not stored on this website.
- How long we keep it: up to 24 months after our last reply, then we delete it, unless you ask us to delete it sooner or we need it to deal with a complaint.
If you email us directly instead, we receive and keep your email in the same way.
Advertising
ComputeNow is free because it shows ads from Google AdSense. Google and its advertising partners may use cookies and similar technologies to choose which ads to show, limit how often you see the same ad, measure how ads perform and prevent fraud. Personalised ads may be based on your visits to this and other websites.
- Your choice: visitors in the UK, the EEA and Switzerland are shown Google's consent message before cookies are used for personalised ads. You can accept, refuse or choose by purpose, and change your choice at any time through the privacy and cookie settings link that Google's message adds to the page.
- Legal basis: your consent, for cookies and for personalised ads (regulation 6 of the Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations, and Article 6(1)(a) UK GDPR and EU GDPR). If you refuse, Google may still show non-personalised ads, using only the limited data its policies allow.
- Google's role: Google decides for itself how it uses this data and is responsible for it as a separate controller. Read how Google uses information from sites that use its services and Google's privacy policy.
- Opting out elsewhere: you can turn off personalised ads from Google at Google Ad Settings, and opt out of other advertising companies' personalised ads at Your Online Choices.
Cookies and similar technologies
We use only what is needed for the site to work, plus advertising cookies where you have agreed to them.
- Strictly necessary (no consent needed): What's Left and calculator storage described above; a record of your ad choice, so we don't ask again; a note that you dismissed our ad-blocker message; and Cloudflare Turnstile on the contact form.
- Consent records: Google stores your consent choice in a cookie on this site (for example
FCCDCFandFCNEC) so it can respect it on later visits. - Advertising (only with your consent in the UK and EEA): cookies set by Google and its partners, for example
__gads,__gpiand__eoion this site andIDEon doubleclick.net.
Most browsers also let you block or delete cookies. If you block all storage, calculators still work, but What's Left won't be saved.
Site traffic and security
Like any website, our host Cloudflare processes your IP address and basic browser information to deliver pages, protect the site from attacks and give us overall traffic figures. We see only totals, such as page views per day, which do not identify you. Legal basis: our legitimate interest in running a secure, working website (Article 6(1)(f)).
Who we share data with
We share personal data only with the services that run the site and deliver your messages, each acting on our instructions under a contract:
- Cloudflare: hosting, security and the contact form.
- Resend: delivering contact form messages to our inbox.
- Google: our email inbox, and AdSense (which acts as a separate controller for advertising, as described above).
We may also disclose information if the law requires it. We do not sell personal data or share it for any other purpose.
Transfers outside the UK and EEA
Cloudflare, Resend and Google are based in the United States or process data there. Where personal data leaves the UK or EEA, it is protected by an adequacy decision (such as the UK–US data bridge or the EU–US Data Privacy Framework, for providers certified under them) or by the standard contractual clauses approved by the UK Information Commissioner and the European Commission.
Your rights
Under UK and EU data protection law you have the right to:
- ask for a copy of the personal data we hold about you;
- ask us to correct it, or to delete it;
- ask us to restrict how we use it, or object to our using it on the basis of legitimate interests;
- receive it in a portable format, where that applies;
- withdraw your consent at any time, without affecting anything done before you withdrew it.
To use any of these rights, email hello@computenow.co.uk. It is free, and we will reply within one month. We may ask you to confirm who you are first.
Complaints
If you are unhappy with how we have handled your data, please tell us first so we can put it right. You can also complain to a data protection authority:
- in the UK, the Information Commissioner's Office (0303 123 1113);
- in the EEA, the supervisory authority in the country where you live or work (see the European Data Protection Board's list).
Children
ComputeNow is meant for adults managing their own money. It is not aimed at children, and we do not knowingly collect personal data from anyone under 13.
Automated decisions
We do not make decisions about you that have legal or similarly significant effects by automated means. Choosing which ad to show is automated by Google, as described above, and only uses personalised data with your consent.
Changes to this policy
We will update this page if how we use personal data changes, and change the date at the top. If a change affects choices you have made, we will ask you again.
