Switching saves you
£149.64
a month. Your payment would go from £1,351 to £1,201 a month (−£150). The £999 fees are paid back in about 7 months.

## Side by side

| Item | Current deal | New deal |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Monthly payment | £1,350.52 | £1,200.88 |
| Upfront fees | £0.00 | £999.00 |
| Saving each month | | £149.64 |

Over a 2-year deal you would be £2,592.31 better off after fees.
When your fixed rate ends, you usually move to the lender's standard rate, which costs more. Many lenders let you choose a new deal up to six months before then, so talk to your lender or a mortgage broker early. It costs nothing to ask.

## When remortgaging is worth it

Compare the monthly saving with the fees: if the fees are paid back well before the new deal ends, switching usually makes sense.
Start looking about six months before your current fixed rate ends, so you avoid moving onto the standard variable rate.
